The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty tells us about how a character goes through their daily life without noticing whats been really in front of them the whole time. Throughout Walter's day he does what an average person would do. Which is going to work and coming home and that's about it. Walter is an unknown shadow throughout where he works.









With the character placement here we see that Walter is pretty much just a shadow in where he stands. We're shown he really has nothing to show for while, everyone is doing their own work and he just is that average guy who does his thing without being noticed. Ben Stiller has contributed some great character proximics within the film that pertain to the character and throughout the film. Walter who goes from a mysterious man then does end up getting to a intimate distance from his dream girl which shows that he is fairly comfortable being around her. This shot seems natural as well giving us that it is in open form. Mise en scene shows greatness within Walter as he grows throughout the film.
Within this frame here we can see the difference in contrasts that is displayed. Walter is displayed as the dominate contrast because of his bright colors that stand out. We also have the subsidiary contrast which is the guy in the car that doesn't really stand out and blends into the background. Are eyes are drawn out from one picture to another within this frame. We can also look at Walters difference in color, as he was use to wearing colors that could interpret sadness and depression. If we look at what he wears now, his color changes to a red that our eyes are captured to showing that he is moving out of his shell.

We can see that there is anticipatory setup going on here when Walter is about to go into one of his daydreams. This image shows that maybe Walter could finally find the belief in himself to go talk to the one girl he desires so much.

Within all greatness of Walter Mitty he has found his new self and came out from being trapped his whole life by adventuring to find the #25 picture for Life magazine. The theme of this film established letterboxing which helped us understand the film. We the audience are told that sometimes whats in front of us we are blinded by and have to go through such experiences in order to find what we are searching for, just like Walter Mitty. The Mise en scene gave extraordinary understanding to the film to help us understand the way things were in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. 

Mystic River

Mystic River is a film that can tell us lots of insights about just a film and how characters can be looked at over the course of the movie. When we look at Jimmy there has always been an obstacle in his way no matter what. We are shown that Jimmy has a cross on his back. What this is exemplifying is that he is being crucified by an obstacle. As we can see from this wide shot as Jimmy is in the room by himself almost like he is just trapped. We are shown that Jimmy is struggling with something that he had just done and knows that he had just killed the someone who was proven innocent. 

With many of the aspects going on with the shot that Jimmy is in we are lead to the point of his buddy Sean Penn who is a police officer inspecting the case of who killed Jimmy's daughter Katie. With this medium shot we are told a lot of things as it is being directed towards Jimmy. We are shown two sides of thoughts. Belief or disbelief because as Sean is pointing his finger in a gun type gesture towards Jimmy we are being told if he was the murderer of their old pal Dave. Or we can also consider that maybe Jimmy did do the right thing. As soon as Dave stepped into the car with the two molesters their childhood friend had been completely erased from who they used to know. We the audience have our agreements and disagreements from what we our shown. We can conclude that this film still has a lot to talk about because there are other sides of the story that we can hear from others.
